Totally Can't Believe I am writing about this...

So, I have been online for many years now. Sure, like a lot of people I would like to find a way to make some serious money - without working too hard at it. LOL. So call me lazy...

Anyway, this friend of mine in Florida called me with an "income opportunity." I put him off of course because I don't know anyone who has REALLY made money in their MLMs, jewelry business, tupperware, travel, blah blah blah...you know, all the stay at home money making opportunities that are a JOKE (don't get me started here).

OK, back to Cal (my friend in Florida)...he was calling me about every day and I was getting annoyed until he mentioned that I could sign up for this Zeek Rewards thing for free. Well, that made me perk up because 2 things would happen: I could get him off my back AND I wouldn't be the "bad guy" by telling him to stop hasseling me.

Fast forward...3 months: I am making money. It's so incredibily simple and a wonderfully legitimate internet business.

So, as someone who never believes in all that crap about making money online, here I am actually blogging about it. I crack myself up. Anyway, it did take me a while to understand the program but I tell you what: You see it growing and it makes you want to learn real fast.

Facelifts Explained

The rhytidectomy, or much more commonly known as a facelift, is a cosmetic surgery specifically designed to restore a more youthful appearance by removing major obvious wrinkles and sagging skin from the facial area. The procedure involves tightening of the facial and neck muscles, as well as actual removal of any excess skin. In doing so the patient should find his or her appearance to be several years more youthful than before. In some good cases, a patient may look as many as ten years younger!

The skin naturally begins to wrinkle and sag as a result of age, sun exposure, and genetics. Children and young adults have smooth, round faces due to evenly distributed tissues in facial contours. Over time, the skin sags and folds. This is particularly occurs around the chin, jaw line, and neck. Not only does a facelift improve facial appearance but also has a dramatic effect on the chin and neck, enhancing the patient’s profile. Though as dramatic as the end results are, unlike several other types of cosmetic surgery, a facelift is not a simple procedure, and requires anywhere from one to two weeks of rest to make a full recovery.

This is a procedure that does actually demand some work from the patient beforehand. Before going in, avoid drugs that contain aspirin for several weeks prior to surgery to minimize excess bleeding. You may be required to take antibiotics to prevent infection. Depending on the doctor, you may be instructed to shampoo your hair the night before surgery.

For the procedure the surgeon will make incisions inside the hairline at the temple, then around the earlobe and behind the ear, ending at the scalp area. Excess skin is removed and sagging muscles and connective tissues are tightened. In some cases, fatty deposits may be removed from beneath the chin and neck. Incisions are closed with small sutures. The surgery may take up to 5 hours, depending on how many other facial procedures are being done in conjunction with the facelift.

There will be a lot of swelling afterwards, but after about two weeks the patient should notice a steady recovery beginning. Scarring fades quickly. In the time following surgery the patient should avoid the sun for several weeks after surgery. The main thing to remember is that the healing process takes time. It is gradual, and so the final results may not be noticeable for even half a year. Keep patient, and soon enough the positive results will become clear.

A few months ago, I decided I was overdue for a proper vacation. The last time I had been away for any length of time was five years ago. After my first year of university, my parents generously sponsored me to go on a European tour. I visited eight countries in fourteen days, and slept in youth hostels the entire time. The only luggage I brought with me was my trusty backpack. Following the advice of some more seasoned travelers, I sewed a Canadian flag on my backpack. Everyone loves Canadians, eh!

This trip was to be somewhat different. I have decided to go back to Europe, but this time I will be traveling in style. I am planning to take a first-class flight into London, and I am in dire need of some first-class luggage. Luggage is such a difficult thing to shop for. It is one of those things that will not be used often enough to justify any great expense, but to purchase cheap luggage would be a complete waste of time and money. I decided to get together with the friends I will be going away with, for an afternoon of good old American shopping.

We spent the afternoon going from department store to big-box store to specialty store and back again. I finally narrowed my choices down to three potential sets of luggage; American Tourister, Briggs & Riley, and Zero Halliburton. They each have certain appealing aspects, and they are all reasonably priced. I read somewhere that American Tourister luggage has one of the best warranties in the industry. Briggs & Riley have been manufacturing quality products since 1993, and they also offer an extensive warranty. Zero Halliburton is, well…..Zero Halliburton.

Once I thought about it for a little while, I realized that the Zero Halliburton suitcase was the one for me. I'll admit that I am actually in love with this luggage. If James Bond were transporting a suitcase filled with priceless gems, he would use a Zero Halliburton. I ended up purchasing a 26-inch Suiter for the slightly bloated price of $900.00. It is constructed from a wonderful brushed aluminum that looks like it would withstand an explosion, much less the baggage handlers at Heathrow. I will be bringing my prized collection of designer purses with me, so I can rest easy that they will be well protected in my awesome new suitcase. Do you think I should put a Canadian flag on it?

Quality is important too – good materials and good construction will yield a bag with good structure, keeping it from flopping and sagging, showing bulges from its contents, and of course a good bag will last you longer.

If you like having a veritable menagerie of handbags to choose from, you may be more able to play with effervescent summer colors, prints, and styles in all kinds of funky materials but if you’re a one or two-purse girl, stick with leather or even suede in neutral colors so that you can get the highest quality and the most versatility from your purse-buying buck.

Regardless of what kind of girl you are or what kind of bag you’re looking for, enjoy the shopping experience, but make sure you think ahead to what that bag will look like with your other outfits – no one likes a case of purse buyer’s remorse!

A Great Hairspray

Every company makes hairspray...it makes it hard to know which to use. I prefer the Osis Freeze hairspray. It's strong but not too sticky. I also prefer aerosal since I have fine hair. Aerosol hairsprays tend to have a finer mist and therefore get into the nooks and crannies to support fine hair.

Pool Chlorine

Chlorine is one of those toxic natural elements that we must come into contact with most every day. It has many positive uses but our hair isn't one of them! Chlorine bonds with the the proteins in our hair and damages it! Hair feels dry, brittle and is difficult to comb through. It tangles easily and has a gummy feel to it. Ironically, the word "Chlorine" in Greek means "pale green" which is often what blonde hair can experience without proper protection from the copper found in swimming pools.

Prevention

One of the easiest ways to help prevent chlorine from damaging your hair is to get your hair very wet before swimming. Think of your hair like a sponge. A dry sponge will soak up liquid quickly but a wet sponge is too "full" to absorb much. This simple step alone can make a major difference! Secondly, comb a conditioner through your hair and leave it in. The conditioner will act as a shield against the chlorine and help provide a barrier that the chlorine won't be able to penetrate. In a pinch, use any creamy conditioner (use a product that normally requires rinsing.) After swimming, immediately shampoo and condition the hair once again.

Treatment

Many products specifically treat swimmer's hair and the one I use and recommend is the Malibu 2000 line of products. This line has been around for a while but still one of the best. There is a Swimmer's Shampoo that prevents chlorine buildup and also helps prevent the green hair that is caused by copper. Swimmer's conditioner that helps condition hair leaving it shiny and free of any minerals. Malibu 2000 products also have special treatments to remove additional buildup.

Don't let chlorine get the best of you!

My trouble with contour threads

Never again! So I thought my eyebrows were a bit droopy so I go to plastic surgeon and talk about it. I'd had Botox and Restalyne so figured why not? Well...I got 4 contour threads in my forehead...from my eyebrows up to my hairline. That was last september. I have had pimples ever since where the threads were poking out of my forehead. I went to see doctor who said, "Don't worry about it and leave them alone."

I did leave them alone until today. I had them removed. The doctor who took them out said he'd never taken them out before because they aren't supposed to be removed. I told him I'd rather have scars on my foreheads than zits for the rest of my life. I am happy. They are gone!!

Never again...next time I'll go for the whole damn forehead lift. I have a 4 year old and at 46 I didn't want her feeling like her friends thought she was with her grandma.

No more acrylic nails!

OK...so over the summer I decide to go natural with my nails. Much to the horror of my nailtech, Kim, I pop off the acrylics (often the nailbed underneath will go sailing as well causing me to need bandaids on my fingertips for a month.) I simply have no time to soak my fingers in acetone for an hour. So...now here I am with bloody cuticles and tissue thin nails. Most polish looks downright silly on fingers like this but I have found the perfect solution! I use a glittery topcoat (INM out the door comes to mind.) I keep it in my purse and when I need to go places that my nails will be seen, I just put a coat of that on.

Then I also keep a bottle of OPI Avoplex cuticle oil in my purse and use that as a quick-dry. I don't think it has ever been marketed as a quick-dry but hey, it works. The topcoat gives my nails a nice sheen without drawing too much attention to them. It doesn't stay on long though so that's why I just keep it with me. OPI used to have these fun little glittery topcoats around Christmas time and I happened to buy a bunch to have onhand for when my nieces visited...sometimes I use that. Also...if my pedicure is looking shabby, a bit of the glitter topcoat can almost hide the less than perfect polish job.

I can't believe she's gone...it's almost a month now. My little friend for 16 years is gone. Who would have thought how depressing it would be to lose a pet? I've had this picture online since she was young...

Hadley wants a dog. Denny is allergic and complained about Sadie for the full 10 years that he's been around. I think we will get some poodle cross dog so as not to irritate him more than necessary. I can't understand why some people don't think animals belong in the house. I have lived with animals my whole life...I LOVE THEM!

If Denny and I break up, or if he dies or something (not that I am hoping) I will definately have a house full of animals again!

So my 3 year old daughter has waist length hair and I am a salon owner. OK...so the poor kid gets a hodgepodge of products to use on her hair. Things that fell off the shelf, the things that I got at the dollar store and once in a while when I think she needs something extra, Joico Kpak. So tonight she got Breck Tearless Shampoo, Bedhead Moisture Maniac Conditioner, and Sea Critters Detangling Spray. I finally realize why it was always hard to get my clients to purchase professional hair products for their kids. BECAUSE YOU GRAB WHAT IS CLOSEST TO THE TUB with one hand while you are holding your child down with the other! Most of the damn shampoo ends up down the drain.

I am not kidding when I tell you it took exactly 2 DAYS for my 3 year old to stop chewing her nails...She can describe her experience quite well. Let's just say I saw an unfamiliar look of horror on her face. HAHA. I wonder if it would work if I stuck it up her nose (moms know what I am talking about here...)

Being a cosmetologist for 25 years, there are a lot of haircare brands I have tried. Even though now I tend to use whatever fell off the shelf with the dented cap, I must say Joico is still my favorite line. The products are made with hydrolyzed human hair keratin and I found nothing better than KPak for deep conditioning!

I hope to one day develop a brand that can compare to Joico!

Ok I am trying to change the website around a bit. I sent out a newsletter to 70,000 of my customers (for real!) asking them for their input. Now I seriously have writers cramp because I am responding to most of them. My customers took the time to comment so it's only right to acknowledge it.

So here it is 3:30 AM and I am only about 1/4th through my changes and I don't know if I even like it. That's what happens when you dive in headfirst to something you know nothing about! I can't believe I've had a web biz for 6 years and know very little about websites. Heck, I haven't even figured out BLOGS yet!

The big $1.99 Specials page went over well BUT I had no more room and some stuff wasn't moving. Well, to regroup and rethink I just packed up about 60 boxes for the local Sioux Falls shelters. A good feeling AND a tax write off. I'll have to start a new Specials page because I've been cleaning the warehouse again. Why do those darn beauty product companies have to change their packaging all the time? I can't keep up!

Don't EVER cut your own hair

OK...so I have been in the beauty industry for 25 years and I KNOW BETTER. But..I did it in a fit of anger with my long hair. I wacked it off. Seriously like 4 to 5 inches. Then, talk about embarassing, I had to call my own salon and ask one of my stylists to fix it. I don't work "behind the chair" anymore but good grief I KNOW BETTER. It is impossible to layer the back of your hair with the proper elevation unless you have arms growing out of your back. So...it is now fixed but I wish I'd have left it alone. I go through this about once a year...grow it long, cut it short. Now I'll need to try out all kinds of short hair products again.

It's just that if I cut it, then she won't be a baby anymore!! She's not even two...nope. I'm not gonna do it. I am trying to get her bangs grown out first but those dang baby hairs just keep growing out under them.

Hot Oil Treatments - what do they do?

I remember when using a hot oil treatment was considered the "deep conditioner" that was supposedly the miracle remedy for dry or damaged hair. Many brands were advertised and home-made recipes were passed around between friends. Well, after my sister went to beauty school years ago, I found out the truth. Hot oil does not condition your hair. Sure, hot oil treatments have their benefits. They feel nice and warm on your head, your hair will be temporarily shiny and....well, that's about it.

Why hot oil treatments don't work

Without getting too much into the science of it all, let's just say hot oil can't get "into" your hair. The molecular structure is just too big to penetrate the hair shaft so it sits there on top. It will coat the cuticle of the hair shaft and that is what makes it reflect light and become shiny (until it's washed) but as far as conditioning? Nope, not gonna happen on Caucasian hair.
